这首歌在互联网上逐渐流传开来，被传到几个小众MP3下载站，并于2014年11月在印尼一家名为Memora radio的广播电台播放，然而他们均错误地认为这首歌是由巴巴多斯乐队Cover Drive演唱。Cover Drive一再否认与这首歌有任何关系。

Reddit上OneLoveUnknownSong版块的管理员认为这首歌来自加拿大，特别指出Kristina Maria可能是这首歌的歌手。也有人认为这首歌由歌手兼创作者Krysta Youngs创作，但她本人并不知道这首歌。

据推测，这首歌的歌手可能是加勒比人或加勒比黑人，因为Cover Drive来自巴巴多斯（加勒比海国家），所以听起来与之相似的歌手可能同样来自加勒比海国家。

另一种理论认为，《One Love》在2011至2013年间从某家唱片公司的服务器被盗取，这可能是2010年代索尼音乐被黑客攻击事件的余波。一个证据是，塞内加尔歌手阿肯未发行的歌曲《Forever》在《One Love》前后被传到互联网，表明这两首歌或许是同一来源。

未经证实的线索包括Kristina Maria，女子组合The Party和嘻哈乐队My Crazy Girlfriend。

已有人利用这首歌制造骗局，最具代表性的是在著名音乐网站Shazam上，一个名为“maelynn”的用户试图将这首歌归于自己名下，并要求歌曲的版权以获利。
